Using shims or nested tables when slicing

When Fireworks exports HTML for a sliced image, the slices are reassembled in a table. You can export the table for sliced documents using shims or using nested tables:

Shims are images that space table cells to align properly when viewed in a browser.
A nested table is a table within a table. The nested table does not use shims. A nested table includes additional HTML code, which may load more slowly in a browser.

You can specify unique table export settings for sliced objects for each document. If desired, you can use the Set Defaults button in the HTML Properties dialog box to apply defaults for all new documents.

To define how Fireworks exports HTML tables:

1 Choose File > HTML Properties, or click the Setup button in the Export dialog box.
2 In the Table pop-up menu, choose a table export option:
Nested Tables - No Shims creates a nested table with no shims.
Single Table - No Shims creates a single table with no shims. This option can cause tables to display incorrectly in some browsers that cannot correctly display fixed table cell widths.
1-Pixel Transparent Shim uses a 1-pixel by 1-pixel transparent GIF as a shim that is resized as needed in the HTML.
Shims from Image Slices applies additional slicing to the image, creating shims as needed from actual pieces of the image.
3 Click OK.
